Scope and Contents The George A. Baxter Family papers begin in 1797 and trace the history of three generations of the Baxter family in Virginia. The collection contains both correspondence and newspaper articles saved by the family. The letters written by George Baxter primarily describe his ministry from 1798-1840. This collection contains the records of various women's missionary societies in the Lexington Presbyterian Church (Lexington, Virginia), including minutes written by Margaret Junkin Preston and Ellen Glasgow. There is also a handwritten history (one page, front and back) of the Presbytery that explains the connection between Washington College, Lexington Presbyterian Church, and the Presbytery, which was written circa 1824.
