This collection is a handwritten copy of a speech given by Alexander White Pitzer to the Synod of the Virginias at Charles Town, West Virginia in 1873 about the history of Washington and Lee University.

This collection includes a 5-page paper by Allen Moger concerning the Army Enlisted Reserve Corps (E.R.C.) at Washington and Lee University and letters received by Moger from students who were called to active duty from the E.R.C.

The collection consists of eight bound diaries written by Andrew Hollinger and addressed to "The Team;" one binder of typed original poetry; and eight folders containing correspondences, materials related to Washington and Lee University, the ROTC Program, and Psi Upsilon fraternity, and a number of Hollinger's financial papers.

Arnold Toynbee visited Washington and Lee University in 1952 and gave fifteen lectures about a recent world tour. The lectures were filmed by Encyclopedia Britannica films but never realeased.

This letter is from Toynbee to Washington and Lee University President, Francis P. Gaines, upon Toynbee's departure from the University in June 1958.

Receipt notes that B. H. Epperson's $25 contribution is to be applied to the Washington and Lee University's endowment of the Texas professorship of Applied Mathematics.

This collection consists of letters from more than 60 Washington and Lee University students to Munger that discussed the war in Vietnam and military life, as well as politics, books, and travel abroad.

Items in the collection include a scrapbook, a bound volume of the Ring-Tum Phi, a book of pressed leaves, Miller family birth records, photographs of Lexington and Campbell family members, newspapers, and personal letters.

This collection consists of a lecture notebook used by Washington College and Washington and Lee University students Charles E. McCorkle between 1869-1870 and his brother Walter between 1870-1874. It includes a note about Robert E. Lee on the inside cover.

One check written to the Bank of Lexington, Virginia by General Randall Lee Gibson for his $25.00 donation to the Washington and Lee University endowment on April 1, 1878.

The image is copied from a photograph printed in the 1920 Washington and Lee yearbook, The Calyx. It includes the DeHart Hotel, the 'Mullberry Hill' residence, and the Spottswood Styles residence, now which is now Woods Creek Montessori School. The image predates Route 60 West. Though the photographer is not identified, it is likely Michael Miley.

This collection ncludes correspondence with various Washington and Lee University officials (Sessoms, Hotchkiss, Parsons and Wilson); other alumni concerning Washington and Lee University Admissions, athletics, fund raising, college history, the Washington Society, the 250th observance at Washington and Lee University; the minutes of the Alumni Board of Directors; course book from 1998 alumni college titled Older than America: an oral history of Washington and Lee.

The letters in this collection were written by Dean Robert Henry Tucker to Mrs. David Embry who was inquiring about her husband's degree from Washington and Lee University. David Embry received his diploma, dated July 28, 1944, and graduated with honors. At the time of the letters he was serving in the Navy.

These papers include an account of his student life at Washington and Lee University from 1940-1943, which mentions faculty members Fitzgerald Flournoy and Lawrence E. Watkin. There are also letters to his parents, documents, poetry and essays about his service in World War II, primarily in the European theater.

This collection contains a stamp dated July 18, 1854; 1891-1892 student handbook for Washington & Lee; four photographs; and various correspondence and articles to and by Dr. Green.

This collection includes letters to and from John L. Campbell, Dean at Washington and Lee University, as well as letters to, from, and concerning Frank J. Gilliam, who was a member of the Washington and Lee class of 1917, 1912-1926. Campbell and Gilliam correspond about several members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity being unable to return for the next semester due to grades. They also correspond about a prospective student from Lynchburg.

This collection consists of two letters that are dated December 26, 1872, and June 21, 1874, and which were written from Frank to his sister, Mrs. McCartney, while he was a student at Washington and Lee University.
