This collection ncludes correspondence with various Washington and Lee University officials (Sessoms, Hotchkiss, Parsons and Wilson); other alumni concerning Washington and Lee University Admissions, athletics, fund raising, college history, the Washington Society, the 250th observance at Washington and Lee University; the minutes of the Alumni Board of Directors; course book from 1998 alumni college titled Older than America: an oral history of Washington and Lee.

Scope and Contents This collection is composed of material pertaining to the celebration of the centennial of Lees-McRae College founded by Washington and Lee alumnus Rev. Edgar Tufts. The collection contains a Lees-McRae College Founder's Day package, including an autographed copy of the Cenntenniel Poem by Fred Chappell. This collection includes items from Johnston's chairmanship of the 50th reunion of the Class of 1929 at Washington and Lee University in 1979 and from when he was named Distinguished Washington and Lee Alumnus in 1980. It also includes two typed letters signed by Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. Powell.
