Biography
During the Civil War, Wilson enlisted in the Confederate Army and served as a private in the 12th Virginia Cavalry. He earned a LL.B. from George Washington University in 1867. He served as a Congressman from West Virginia from 1883-1895 and as postmaster general from 1895-1897. He was President of Washington and Lee University from 1897-1900. See DAB; Crenshaw, II, 210-65.
