Scope and Contents This file consists of three newspaper articles, two of which are from Rockbridge County News, which all provide general histories of a variety of historic homes in the Lexington and Rockbridge Area. The file also includes a typescript essay on old homes in and near Lexington, as well as a housing bond and appraisal letter from Gauranty Bond and Mortgage Company in Richmond, Virginia.

Scope and Contents This one, small, green book contains autographs of schoolmates, belonging to Matthew W. Paxton, who was a member of the Washington and Lee University Class of 1876. There are also xerox copies of commencement fliers and other items used to identify other subjects in the book.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: The Elisha Franklin Paxton Papers are comprised primarily of the personal correspondences, business and military papers of Elisha F. Paxton between 1845 and 1863. The core of the personal letters are written from Paxton to his wife Elizabeth White Paxton during their courtship in the 1850s and during the American Civil War, 1861-1863, while he served as an officer in the Confederate States Army’s 27th Virginia Infantry, a member of the staff of General Stonewall Jackson, and general in command...
