Biography
Johh H. Gibbons, son of Erastus and Martha Gibbons was born near Albany, New York in 1835. He removed to Alabama and is listed in the 1860 U.S. Census as a schoolteacher in Demapolis, Alabama. When the American Civil War began, Gibbons enlisted as a private in the 23rd Alabama Infantry for service in the Confederate Army. He died service of disease in October 1863.
