Virginia Press Asociation, 1932 - 1939
Scope and Contents
The publications in the Riegel papers from the interwar period show the shift in American focus from the economy to international relations from the early 1930s to 1939. The early publications focus on the impact of New Deal programs with only some regard to events outside the U.S. Publications from the late 1930s have a heavily international perspective with pictoral booklets of the atrocities in the second Sino-Japanese war, and threats of German fascism. Academic articles relate to the press, particularly in China, but also from a global perspective, Modern propaganda techniques, and international relations. Finally, there is a sampling of newsletters focusing on the same topics from various perspectives.
