The brothers were pursuing an appropriate photo of their father for a new edition of Henry Lee’s memoirs. At the end, Charles Carter writes “I hear that students are flocking up to Washington College which I am glad of, for it makes me hope that under your auspices the bequest of its great and good founder will be a source of great benefit to our dear old state.”
