Letter, Dr. William F. Alexander to John A. Washington III , 1840-10-09

 Item — Box: 1, Folder: 1

Abstract

Letter written to John A. Washington at the University of Virginia discusses family and slave-related matters. "You have no forgotten perhaps the unpleasant circumstances which occurred in our domestic concerns just before you left home. At the earnest request of Alfred through his old grandmothers, I made him a visit in goal. I had received a leter from an individual in Washington offering $700 for him. I had determined if I could get $50 more to take it. He appeared so subdued and anxious to return home on any terms that I released him, and he has behaved very well since. But if further misconduct occurs I will not hesitate one moment."
