At the earnest request of Alfred through his old grandmothers, I made him a visit in goal. I had received a leter from an individual in Washington offering $700 for him. I had determined if I could get $50 more to take it. He appeared so subdued and anxious to return home on any terms that I released him, and he has behaved very well since. But if further misconduct occurs I will not hesitate one moment."
