Lee three brothers, William, James, and Edward Carson, who are attending or en route to Washington College from Louisiana and asks that Lee be attentive to their well being. He also mentions Lee's proposed book on the Civil War campaigns of Virginia but that while he has no reports he'd be happy to write about any actions of which he had a part.
