Massachusetts-Bay Promissory notes
This collection contains two promissory notes from the state of Massachusetts-Bay. One note is dated February 4, 1777, for the sum of ten pounds. The other note is dated April 26, 1779 and is for the sum of 100 pounds.
Matthew Page Andrews Collection
This collection contains three volumes of printed essays by various people, collected and bound by Andrews, showing the 'Southern' view, especially about African-Americans. The first volume inscribed as 1905 is entitled 'What is a Lynching?' The other two volumes are inscribed with 1908 and Baltimore and are entitled 'Magazine Scrapbook'
Matthew Thompson McClure Typescripts
This collection includes unpublished typescripts of two books by McClure, Philosophy in Hellenistic Athens and Philosophy and Youth. It also contains several typescript essays and addresses.
Matthew W. Paxton Autograph Book
This one, small, green book contains autographs of schoolmates, belonging to Matthew W. Paxton, who was a member of the Washington and Lee University Class of 1876. There are also xerox copies of commencement fliers and other items used to identify other subjects in the book.

McCown Family Papers
This collection consists primarily of business papers of the family including sale lists, indentures, land surveys, deeds, wills, promissory notes, and numerous receipts. It also includes 71 photographs from the collection of Samuel W. McCown, Jr. (WLU 1919).
Also incuded is a verse in remembrance of visit to Black Wall Cave, January 30, 1914, by H. M. Vest, which makes reference to several Rockbridge County, Virginia boys.
Meredith W. D. Hogshead Correspondence
This collection consists of printed digital scans and transcriptions of 40 letters written between 1848-1853 from Elijah Hogshead to his son Meredith William David Hogshead, who was a student at Washington College.

This collection consists of an 1836 letter to Stockholders from the company's president, Alexander T. Barclay, and a report signed John C. Bowyer, dated 1838 December 5, to the Board of Public Works. Both of these documents are signed by the authors.

Mortimer Norton Wisdom Papers
This collection consists of copies of letters written by Mortimer Norton Wisdom, to his mother when he was a law student at Washington and Lee University from 1872-1873. There are also copies of exams given by John Randolph Tucker in 1873 and copies of speeches given by Wisdom in 1872.

This collection contains copies of sheet music and lyrics to a song written about Goshen Pass, Virginia. The song was copyrighted by Myrtle Davis in 1911.
Nathaniel Huntoon Account Book
The account and barter book contains handwriting samples and aphorisms. Account notations are in British currency. Rum and molasses are the predominant products listed. It also includes a poem on the American Revolutionary War effort of New Hampshire's soldiers by William Proctor. The poem includes a mention of General George Washington.
Nathaniel Pope Howard Papers
This collection contains AMS notebooks (156 p. and 25 p.) of Howard's annotations for an edition of Lucretius as well as two ALS from H. A. J. Munro to Howard dated July 15, 1867 and May 19, 1868.
Neil November collection
This collection holds documents related to Mr. November’s time at Washington and Lee associated with the fraternity he belonged to: the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Zeta Beta Tau. He was the cartoonist for the national Zeta Beta Tau organization from 1948 to 1950, while also drawing cartoons for local publications in Rockbridge County and for fraternal events. Included are sketches, finished products, and correspondence about his work as a cartoonist and official Zeta Beta Tau publication.
