This collection includes items from Johnston's chairmanship of the 50th reunion of the Class of 1929 at Washington and Lee University in 1979 and from when he was named Distinguished Washington and Lee Alumnus in 1980. It also includes two typed letters signed by Supreme Court Justice Lewis F. Powell.

This collection includes final exam booklets, class lists, and photographs from Merrick's time at Washington and Lee. There is also memorabilia of the Class of 1930, including a 40th reunion booklet, collected by Merrick.

The collection consists of correspondences between Mark Byrn Davis, Jr. and other Washington and Lee University alumni and related figures concerning the potential decision to institute co-education at Washington and Lee in 1984.
