Scope and Contents This collection contains a typed copy of a speech given in 1911, by George H. Denny, President of Washington and Lee University, as he departed for the University of Alabama as well as a photocopy of the speech in shorthand form, taken by Harry E. Meek, Washington and Lee University, Class of 1915.
Content Description A scrapbook compiled by Washington and Lee University student Horace Whaley Phillips, of Suffolk, Virginia (WLU class of 1908)during his studetn years. It is made from a 1902 Mary Baldwin College yearbook, "The Blue Stocking," and includes pasted in photographs, newspaper clippings, school and Lexington, Va. related ephemera, and more. Further subjects include, Stonewall Brigade Band, C&O Railroad, W&L President George H. Denny, athletics, W&L student body.

Scope and Contents Rupert Latture's address recalls highlights of the Class of 1915 at Washington and Lee University. It makes an extended analogy to Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story, 'The Great Stone Face.' It also includes humorous references to Washington and Lee President George Hutcheson Denny.
