Dalton, on plant life identified at three historic iron furnace ruins in Rockbridge and Botetourt counties in Virgina. The furnaces subject to the research were Buena Vista Furnace near the confluence of the South River and the Maury River between Lexington and Buena Vista, Virginia; the Glenwood Furnace located in Arnold's Valley, Rockbridge Co.; and the Arcadia or Boyd's Furnace near Arcadia and along Jennings Creek in Botetourt...

Adair-Hutton Department Store Fire Photograph

Scope and Contents The image depicts the aftermath of the Adair-Hutton Department Store fire in Lexington, Virginia on December 16, 1949. The building was located on the southwest corner of Main and Washington Streets. There are onlookers and cars parked up the street. This photograph is a modern copy of the original, which was taken a few days after the fire.
