Scope and Contents This collection consists of the guest book of Belfield in Lexington, Virginia, which was the residence of former Washington & Lee University Dean of Students Frank J. Gilliam and his wife Louise. The guestbook is an original leather bound volume of Shakespeare, published in 1778, which has had one hundred and twenty original pages replaced with a like number of blank pages titled 'Guests at Belfield.' James McDowell Regimental books

This collection contains James McDowell's regimental manuscript books. The books were kept from August-November 1814 while McDowell served as a Lt. Colonel in the War of 1812. The volumes document various orders related to military appointments, court martials, drills, furloughs, inspections, etc. The first volume includes a roster of officers of the 5th Regiment of Virginia Militia. Most of the pages in this volume are blank.

Harper and his wife, Lizzie, while he was stationed at James Island, South Carolina during the siege of Charleston and later during the Virginia campaigns of 1864. The collection also includes muster rolls, other documents, and typed transcriptss of the correspondence.
