This collection consists of three letters written by E. M. Walden from various Confederate States of America camps (near Wilmington, NC; Kinston, NC; and Richmond, VA) to his sister. He provides her with updates on CSA military activities and mentions General Sherman's raid in Georgia. The letters are dated June 13, 1863, Dec. 3, 1864, and Jan. 20, 1865.

Scope and Contents This collection contains an autographed letter signed from General John Pope to General George B. McClellan at the headmaster's Army of Virginia, Washington, D.C. July 4, 1862. Pope writes that he will be able to offer military help against the confederate forces and sights specific numbers for General Irvin McDowell's troops, one division of which he says are at Fredericksburg. He also writes that his troops have broken up the depots on the Ohio River and he hopes to destroy the railroad...

This collection contains a copy of 'Organization of the Lee Monument Association, and the Association of the Army of Northern Virginia, Richmond, Va., Nov. 3rd and 4th, 1870'. A second copy is cataloged under E547 .L47 in Special Collections Rare. The printed invitation to the unveiling of the Robert E. Lee statue on May 29, 1890 in Richmond, VA is also included, in two pieces.

This collection consists of a photograph of a river scene of 'Great Falls' of James River at Richmond, Virginia. There is a stone wall on the far side of the river in the background, which is evidence of a former canal. The second photograph is of the ca. 1833 engraving of the painting 'Richmond, from the hill above the waterworks' by George Cooke.

Content Description The William Thornton Owen Papers consists of a three page letter written by Owen to his father, Robert E. Owen, dated September 24, 1855 on his experiences as a new student at Washington College in Lexington, Virginia. The letter initially details his trip to the school from his home in Halifax County, Virginia, via Richmond, Waynesboro, Staunton, then Lexington, Va. by rail and stage.
