This collection consists of a diary kept by Frank Smith Reader between March-June 1864. In it, he describes the march up the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, the burning of the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), the pillaging that took plage in Lexington, and the march to Lynchburg. Scope and Contents
This letter by James Dabney McCabe is addressed to Robert E. Lee. McCabe asks permission to write about Lee's actions during the American Civil War. He includes that as an ex-cadet of Virginia Military Institue, he published "A Life of Lieut. Gen. T. J. Jackson" during the war.
