This file consists of a contract for locks between the James River and Kanawha Company and James Jordan, dated November 26th, 1835. The contract also includes specification for locks, articles of agreement, and a signature by James Cabell. The file additionally includes a letter to John Jordan from W.P. Munford noting that a lock contract has been voided (dated October 3rd, 1830). Finally, the file contains a page of handwritten notes on financing for the lock, as well as participant...

Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a photograph of a river scene of 'Great Falls' of James River at Richmond, Virginia. There is a stone wall on the far side of the river in the background, which is evidence of a former canal. The second photograph is of the ca. 1833 engraving of the painting 'Richmond, from the hill above the waterworks' by George Cooke.
