This letter from Julia Wise to her aunt describes people and conditions during an early part of the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi during the American Civil War. Among the individuals named in the letter are: Sophranna Ross, Joel Wise, Andrew Currie, Albert Currie and Martin Fortner. A photocopy and transcription of the letter are housed with the item.
Juliet S. Bradford Correspondence
This collection includes 11 items, all expressing sympathy at the death of Mrs. Bradford's husband, Vincent L. Bradford, a benefactor of Washington and Lee University. There is a resolution passed by the Washington and Lee University faculty in tribute to the memory of Mr. Vincent L. Bradford.
L. A. and Lizzie Harper correspondence
This collection contains the correspondence of L. A. Harper and his wife, Lizzie, while he was stationed at James Island, South Carolina during the siege of Charleston and later during the Virginia campaigns of 1864. Topics include camp life, Harper's court-martial, domestic affairs, sanitary conditions, and supplies. The collection also includes muster rolls, other documents, and typed transcriptss of the correspondence.
